Week 1: Write 15 questions. Begin reading “Geography of Thought,” “Why have there been no great female artists: Thirty years later,” “Touched by Fire.” Talk to two people about my research.***
(15 may seem like a lot–however, I think that three moderately specific questions each day for five days is achievable and challenging)
Week 2: Visit the stacks in a serious way–engage, devotedly, with one solid theory of genius. Get deeply involved in Frida Kahlo’s work and sociocultural context of it.
Week 3: Revisit questions from week 1. Talk to no less than five people about my research. Attempt to really clarify questions and continue reading.
Week 4: Find local female artist(s) to help apply/understand/situate the research in comparison to the time period of Linda Nochlin’s original publishing, and Kahlo’s time. See a show–head to the Guthrie/get hip to local music/get out on purpose and take research relevant notes. Have academic fun, intentionally. Do a TIDY draft of plans for weeks 6-10.
Week 5: Get back in the stacks/refresh resources. Indulge in a deeply art historical project of analysis and synthesis. Write a sufficient and necessary recap. Polish plan.
